The Old Guard 2 on Rotten Tomatoes Review and ratings

The Old Guard fans have been waiting to see the action movie sequel of the Netflix superhero blockbuster film to be released after five years. And now the day has arrived when Charlize Theron and her band of immortal warriors have to come back on the scene and have a battle that never ends The crucial responses are now starting to come in. Was the wait worthwhile for The Old Guard 2? Should we end the suffering of Andy and the other unkillable mercenaries? Let’s investigate.

The Old Guard 2, which became one of Netflix’s most successful debuts ever after earning an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and being viewed by 72 million households in its first four weeks, failed to live up to the hype, according to Julian Roman of MovieWeb. Unfortunately, Rotten Tomatoes gave The Old Guard 2 a “rotten” 42% rating at release, indicating that the sequel is far from as successful as the original.

Regretfully, IGN’s Eric Goldman still rates The Old Guard 2 a lackluster 5 out of 10. Charlize Theron was claimed to be a great leading actress, but nevertheless, regardless of her attractiveness, the action sequel became a disappointment.

The Old Guard 2 remains a good example of a disappointing sequel that is low on entertainment and excitement of the initial film and it does not live up to the hype of being a straight-out battle between Uma Thurman and Charlize Theron.

“The Old Guard 2 is still a fun and emotional ride, despite grievances in story and larger lore implications,” said Katey Stoetzel of InBetweenDrafts, lending some optimism to the proceedings.” David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter also called the movie “a better-than-average unique viewing include well acted by an exceptionally capable cast, peppered with sufficient excitement to quench most desires, and underscored with a melancholy vein of reflection about the confused roles of superpowers.”

‘The Old Guard 2’ Is Basically Filler Not Killer

The general impression, however, is that The Old Guard 2 is ultimately disappointing. Screen Rant’s Mae Abdulbaki, who remains infatuated with the characters, criticizes the sequel for being little more than a prelude to a third installment.

And although while there is still more to be said and Discord is a compelling antagonist who I hope to see more of, if only to see Thurman acting cold, I don’t think it is worth spending the limited time we have left on The Old Guard 2 and its plot of immortals fighting it out.

Collider’s Shawn Van Horn even goes so far as to refer to this immortals story as “completely lifeless” and “filler,” warning that we might have to wait another five years for the next installment.

Given how much of the plot is left unresolved at the end credits, it is clear that The Old Guard 2 is the sequel of a trilogy. The Old Guard 2 is fluff that doesn’t really give us a cause to care about this film, but perhaps in five more years we’ll get a conclusion.
